Professional Interest/Expertise/Specializations:
As an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Section of Neonatology, I have the opportunity to care for critically ill neonates, educate residents and fellows, and conduct research. My research interests focus on the role of the innate immune system, particularly the role of neutrophils, in neonatal diseases including necrotizing enterocolitis and sepsis. Although I spent the first 51/2 years of my career in private practice neonatology following fellowship (2004-2009), my drive to start my research pulled me back into the academic community. I am currently continuing my education in the methodological foundations and conduct of clinical and translational research by completing a Master of Science degree in Clinical and Translational Sciences offered at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center Graduate College with an expected graduation date of May 2013.
