Professional Interest/Expertise/Specializations:
Using cutting-edge technologies and our body's natural host defense mechanisms, research is focused on designing and developing futuristic "individualized therapies" for the prevention and treatment of infectious and inflammatory diseases. We are learning that dendritic (immune) cells and pathogen-sensing SP-A and TLR4 molecules are critical for protection. These cells and molecules have qualitative or quantitative defects in individuals who are extremely susceptible to infection, either by developmental immaturity or by immune-compromised conditions.
